Today, for Throwback Thursday, we’re turning back the clock to a more somber chapter from the 1988-89 school year. In that year’s yearbook, several pages are dedicated to a devastating event: a massive fire that swept through much of the school, leaving parts of the building in ruins. The fire forced students and teachers to adapt quickly, with classes being relocated to the gym and various off-campus locations.
While the images of the damage are hard to forget, what stands out even more is the incredible spirit of the Hood Canal community. In the face of this tragedy, staff and students rallied together, showing resilience, adaptability, and unwavering dedication. With the support of families and local organizations, the school year didn’t just continue—it thrived. Everyone worked together to ensure students finished the year strong, proving once again the strength of our community when it matters most.
We’ll continue sharing these memorable moments, and we invite you to join in as we celebrate the rich history of our school and the people who make it so special.
