Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. This law applies to all schools that receive funding from the U.S. Department of Education, including our school. We are fully compliant with all FERPA requirements, ensuring the confidentiality and security of your child's education records.

Information Sharing Agreement:

Our district has an agreement with the Skokomish Tribe to release information covered under FERPA to the Tribe's Education Department staff. This is done only with a signed consent form from the family, ensuring that your child's information is shared responsibly and with your permission.

Parental Rights Under FERPA:

FERPA grants parents specific rights regarding their children's education records. These rights include the ability to access records, request amendments, and have some control over the disclosure of personally identifiable information. When a student turns 18 or attends a school beyond the high school level, these rights transfer to the student, who then becomes an "eligible student."
