Reporting Bullying

Anti-Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (HIB) Policy

At Hood Canal School, we take bullying seriously and are committed to maintaining a safe and positive learning environment for all students. Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students is our top priority, and we actively work to prevent and address any incidents of harassment, intimidation, or bullying.

Washington State law prohibits harassment, intimidation, or bullying (HIB) in our schools. RCW 28A.600.477 defines HIB as any intentionally written message, image (including those electronically transmitted), verbal, or physical act, including but not limited to those motivated by race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, sexual orientation (including gender expression or identity), mental or physical disability, or other distinguishing characteristics, when such an act:

  • Physically harms a student or damages the student's property.

  • Substantially interferes with a student's education.

  • Is so severe, persistent, or pervasive that it creates an intimidating or threatening educational environment.

  • Substantially disrupts the orderly operation of the school.

Schools are required to take action if students report they are being bullied. Actions taken cover a wide range and are tailored to address the specific issue. This may include counseling the students involved, implementing safety plans, and/or disciplinary actions.

If you or a student you know is being bullied, please report it using this form. Reporting can also be done anonymously.

HIB and Gender Inclusive Compliance Officer: Principal Steven Torres is your primary contact for concerns in these areas. You can reach him by phone at 360-877-5463 or email Steven Torres.
