Students being directed by staff members

On Thursday, Hood Canal School successfully conducted its annual flood evacuation drill, a vital preparedness exercise for the unlikely event of a Cushman Dam failure. The drill was executed with the invaluable assistance of the Washington State Patrol, Mason County Sheriff’s Office, and Skokomish Police, ensuring the safety and readiness of our students and staff.

During the drill, students and staff safely crossed Highway 106 and Highway 101 and then hiked to a safe elevation, well above potential flood levels. Special arrangements were made for those with mobility issues, who were transported by bus to higher ground, ensuring that everyone's safety was prioritized.

The entire process was seamless, showcasing our community's readiness and exceptional teamwork. This drill not only tests our emergency procedures but also reinforces the importance of community cooperation and the effectiveness of our response plans.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our emergency responders for their unwavering support and dedication to keeping our community safe. Their commitment ensures that we are well-prepared for any emergency, and we are proud to have such a dedicated team supporting our school.
