Cracked heart

A Special Message from Superintendent Dr. Lance Gibbon

Dear Hood Canal Parents & Guardians,

It is with deep sadness that I share the news of the passing of three Hood Canal parents in separate incidents this past week. These heartbreaking losses are having a profound impact on many of our students, staff, and families. While you may have questions about the individual situations, at this time we do not have additional details to share.

Our leaders and staff have been meeting to prepare to support all students and staff in the coming days and weeks as we process this loss together. We have arranged for counselors from Educational Service District (ESD) 113 to be available during the first day of summer school on July 8 to support our students. Even if your child is not enrolled in summer school, you are more than welcome to bring them by to access the support, if needed.

We are committed to providing support and resources to those in need. If you or your children are struggling with this news, please consider the following resources:

  1. Safe Harbor: Located in Olympia, Safe Harbor (360-352-0711) provides grief support groups and can connect you with other resources. You can find additional behavioral health resources on their website: Safe Harbor.
