Before the end of the school year, our 3rd graders took part in a cherished tradition at Hood Canal School by handcrafting their very own drums. This meaningful project, which has been a part of our school’s culture for many years, allows students to create a unique drum that they will carry with them throughout their time at Hood Canal. When they reach the end of their journey here and transition to high school, they will have the opportunity to decorate and take these special drums with them as a symbol of their growth and memories made.
Family members joined the students to assist with this project, adding an extra layer of community and support. The involvement of family in this process emphasizes the importance of cultural traditions and the strong bonds within our school community. The students, with the guidance and encouragement of their families and teachers, poured their creativity and effort into their drum-making, resulting in beautiful and unique instruments.
The pride in the students' faces as they completed their drums was evident, reflecting not only their hard work but also their connection to a long-standing tradition. This project not only teaches practical skills but also instills a sense of continuity and cultural appreciation.
We are incredibly proud of our 3rd graders and grateful for the family members who participated. Their dedication and creativity have ensured that this tradition continues to thrive, enriching our school community year after year.
